Open Day & summer BBQ at Hemlock

What does a Hemlock project actually look like behind the scenes?
During our Open Day, partners, children, family and friends could take a look inside Hemlock for themselves. And of course we didn’t just want to tell them what we do — we wanted to show how a project comes together here.
From idea to handover
Tour card in hand, our visitors followed the same route a project takes through Hemlock. We started at Sales & Estimating, went via Projects and Engineering to the Machine shop and Joinery, and finished through Logistics at our field service team.
That way our colleagues in each department could explain their own contribution. From the first client enquiry and working it out technically down to the millimetre, to machining the components, building the finished piece and installing it on site.
There was something to discover along the way, too. Every department came with a question: why are technical drawings sometimes still printed out? How does a computer tell a machine what to make? And how can you bend wood without breaking it?
Who comes closest?
Our sheet-material store holds hundreds of full boards and offcuts in all kinds of materials, colours and sizes. But how many exactly?
That became our prize question of the day. Everyone could make an estimate and submit their answer via a QR code. At the end of the tour we announced in the joinery who had come closest — with a nice prize for the winner, naturally.
After all the questions, machines and furniture, we swapped Hemlock for the beach at Noordwijk. At beach pavilion De Zeemeeuw we ate well together and closed the day with a relaxed summer BBQ.
A good day with colleagues and with the people who normally mostly hear the Hemlock stories at home.
From the first client enquiry to a look inside the joinery — a fine way to show what we build together every day.

‘This feels like a family business’
Hemlock is not officially a family business. Yet according to our founders and directors August Jahangier and Peter Seegers, it often feels like one. In an extensive article they, together with several colleagues, talk about the way we work, the craftsmanship within Hemlock and above all the people who do it together every day.
